Filmmaker Case Esparros has been documenting abandoned and under-construction playgrounds in the Los Angeles area since the beginning of the 2020 pandemic. This 20-page booklet features portraits of playgrounds from his collection. All taken at night, these iPhone photographs capture a feeling of alienated absence, as each playground is closed off to the public with caution-tape. Quiet, unnerving, and direct, Esparros gives attention to these vacant structures originally built to inspire imagination. Discovered during a time of transition, these vicinities are momentarily devoid of play.
